Was genau macht meine Identität aus? Bin ich immer die gleiche Person? Oder war ich in den verschiedenen bisherigen Episoden meines Lebens eine andere Person? Fühle ich mich zugehörig und anerkannt? Wie frei bin ich?

Die verschiedenen Stoffe stehen für die verschiedenen Lebensabschnitte.  Denn das ist der Stoff, der uns ausmacht. 

What exactly constitutes my identity? Am I always the same person? Or was I a different person in the various episodes of my life so far? Do I feel a sense of belonging and recognition? How free am I?

The different fabrics stand for the different stages of life.  Because that's the stuff that makes us who we are.
